The vision exam is a good fit if you need a brand new, doctor issued prescription. You are likely to qualify if (1) you're between 18-39 years old (2) you wear prescription glasses to correct distance vision (3) you have generally healthy eyes with no eye diseases (4) you had an in-person exam within the last 4 years, and (5) you're located in British Columbia.

The lens scanner is a good fit if you’re happy with the prescription in your current glasses, but you need help retrieving the details to shop with. You are likely to qualify if you use single-vision prescription lenses.

Both the vision exam and the lens scanner tool provide details for single-vision prescriptions only, including astigmatism.

If you wear multifocal, progressive, or bifocal lenses, that means you need correction for more than one field of vision (i.e. to see both near and far away). Unfortunately, the online prescription tools are not equipped to serve these kinds of prescriptions at this time.

The vision exam can provide prescriptions in this range: -1.00 and -5.00.

The lens scanner can read prescriptions in this range: -6.00 - +3.00, with a cylinder up to -2.50.

Unfortunately, no. Right now, the vision exam and the lens scanner tool only work for single-vision prescriptions. This means that the online prescription tools are not a good fit for anyone who wears progressive or multifocal lenses or readers.

For the vision exam, you can use an iPhone XS or later and iOS 13 or later. An Android version is in development.

For the lens scanner, you can use an iPhone or an Android device. You'll also need a computer with a 12-27 inch screen to pair with your device for the scan.

The vision exam taxes approximately 15 minutes. Once you've completed the exam and elected to have your inputs sent to a doctor, you can expect your new prescription within 24 hours.

The lens scanner tool takes approximately 3 minutes. Once you've completed your scan, you will immediately receive your prescription details.

Unfortunately, the online vision exam is only available for glasses prescriptions at this time. If your existing prescription is current, you can usually find the details on the side of the box. Otherwise, we recommend seeing an eye doctor. A contacts version of the online exam is in the works, but it's not ready yet!

No, you could still get disqualified during the exam. One of the most common reasons is the strength of your prescription. The vision exam can only deliver vision prescriptions within a certain range. This means that your exam could get cut short if you have a particularly strong prescription—or, on the flip side—you require very minimal correction.

If you're unsure whether your prescription falls within the range, there's no harm in trying the exam. You don't pay until you've completed the exam and chosen to send your inputs to an eye doctor.
